We took a bit of time from our warm winter residence to visit our son (Kyle) and future daughter-in-law (Jobi) at their house in Sandy, UT (near Salt Lake City). As you can see in this picture, our main activity was skiing a few days at the local mountains while we visited.

We were told that this year wasn't great for snow, but I guess we were lucky that it snowed while we were there. Here at Alta, we saw about a foot of snow that day that made the powder hounds happy. I don't have a lot of ski experience in the last 40 years, so low visibility and un-groomed trails made it a challenge for me.

No, this isn't a filter, but a picture taken through the blue plastic bubble you pull over yourself while riding up the mountain at Snowbasin Resort. Great views!

From the top of Snowbasin, you had nice views in all directions. On the right you can see the Great Salt Lake just under the clouds in the background.

On the afternoon of the day at Snowbasin, the sun came out and warmed us up.

At Snowbasin, we also met up with some of Kyle and Jobi's friends who skied with us.

After two days of skiing I took the day off while Kyle and Jobi skied Deer Valley while we sat at the lodge and enjoyed some good food and drinks.

The last day here we did a tour and tasting at the historic High West Distillery. They are distributing nationally as we recognized them in bars and restaurants when we got back to FL.

Utah has quite a few quirky laws regarding alcohol sales in the state that I still don't understand completely. The whisky tasting was as normal as ones I had done before. Great trip!!!

From here we headed back to FL to finish our winter snowbirding. Stay tuned for our next post on where we stayed and what big decision we made while at this resort.
