For our last beach stop this spring, we stayed at the Gulf State Park for a couple of weeks. We have been here before, but we liked it so much here that we have made this a place we will be sure to visit many more times in our future. Although it is a state park, it has the amenities and comforts of many RV resorts, plus more. USA Today has also named the park's trail system as the #1 recreational trail system ('23-'25) in the U.S.

This park is located between and connected to the towns of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. The greatest asset besides the location is the built-in biking trails that can take you from town to town, to the beachfront, and everything in between. The park has full hookups, pools, pickleball courts, watercraft and bike rentals, restaurants/beach bars, and lots of activities for families. Just opening this year is an all new RV resort section that adds even more upscale amenities. We will be sure to try and get a spot in there next time through.

Many of the 29 miles of trails sit above the swamps on boardwalks.

If you like birds and reptiles, there will be no shortage of opportunities to see them near the trails or your campsite.

The trails also connect to some trails outside the park that are expanding to reach even further out. This section of the Ft Morgan Rd Trail looks to be very newly added and adds another 7 miles of riding opportunity.

This is a map of the park that does not include the new RV Resort that is located on the north side of the park that used to be an old golf course.

If military history is of any interest to you, you want to stop at the Fort Morgan State Historical site that isn't very far to the west of the park. This fort was one of the vital protectors of Mobile Bay in our past.

They may be hard to see, but touring the catacombs of the fort I ran across some interesting features resembling stalactites. Since these are obviously not thousands of years old like the ones you see in many caves, there must be some explanation how they created so fast since this fort is only a few hundred years old.

Riding on the trails can also provide you with scenic water views around several of the lakes in the park. In the back you see the high rises of Gulf Shores on the beach.

After dinner one evening we drove by this boat for sale at the marina. I know very little about boating, but this seems to have enough horsepower (2,000 hp) to get around comfortably.

One last view from riding the trails. We really like it here and will be back to enjoy again in our future.
From here we head north to visit some family, ride some new HoF rail trails, and to attend a wedding. Stay tuned to read my future posts on those adventures...
