If you like a less developed and a quieter beach experience, staying in Eastpoint on the Forgotten Coast may be for you. This area is also known for oysters, so oyster lovers will also love this place. While here, we stayed at the Coastline RV Resort.

Eastpoint is also very near other beach towns such as Apalachicola, Port St. Joe, and Mexico Beach that have many seafood restaurants available as well. Check out the Indian Pass Raw Bar if near Port St Joe.

Right across the Apalachicola Bay from our resort, is St. George Island that has this historic lighthouse you can climb to see views of the island. This island also has very nice beaches.

After walking up many steps, you need to climb a ladder and squeeze through this portal to get to the top. Patrons will need to coordinate as this is obviously a one-way street.

From the top you'll have a 360 degree view of the island. This island also has a bike path that runs about 10 miles from the Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park in the east to the other side of the town. As you can see, even in this prime area, the traffic isn't anything as bad as many beaches on the panhandle.

Not too far to the east, you can start from Stopchoppy to ride an offshoot of the the Big Bend Scenic Byway Coastal Trail to Panacea (13mi). At the end you'll need to turn around here at Mashes Sands Beach. This quiet trail runs mostly parallel to Surf Rd. and runs right past by Angelo's Seafood Restaurant where we had some dinner. After the ride back to Sopchoppy, you can take a break at Civic Brewing Co.

In Eastpoint, you can also visit the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve. There are some nature trails with descriptions of the varied plant and wildlife with a museum.

At the resort, we had a nice view of the bay, but there was a little road noise at times from the two-lane highway between us.

Eastpoint Beer Company was also very close where they cater very nicely to our canine friends. They also have live music and pizza with nice views of the bay while enjoying a cold one.

This is the view from the pier at the resort with the bay behind us. If you want to escape the busy, crowded beaches in other areas, this place may be where you can just relax and take in the beauty, sun, and seafood of the area.

Next stop we move to Navarre, FL for more biking, beaches, and seafood. Check out my next post on what we did there...
