Although we didn't stay on the island of Santa Rosa, we were just across the bridge where we stayed at the Santa Rosa RV Resort. On the island, we liked to visit the Gulf Islands National Seashore where the white sand beaches were some of the best we have experienced.

You can't drive on the beach like most others on the panhandle, but a short walk from the parking areas take you to these relatively less crowded beaches with this white sand and clear, turquoise waters.

I've never seen this contraption before, so I took a pic to share. Not sure how it works, but it would be interesting to see this take-off and land from water I would assume.

Not too far to the north in Milton is the Blackwater Heritage State Trail where we enjoyed a nice ride. This rail trail was fully paved and in good condition.

This trail goes about 10 miles and ends at NAS Whiting Field.

Back at the beach we enjoyed warm days in April where we could relax after our bike rides. There is also a bike trail in Navarre that connects to the National Park where we visited for beach access.

Our view from the our campsite came with many opportunities to see large sea birds who weren't all too shy to hang out with us. In the background you can see the high rises on the island.

From another view you can see we were right on the water. This resort also had a pool and water vessel rentals if you so desired.

From our chairs we could just relax and see the occasional boat run by.

One thing that caught my attention was watching the birds perch on these posts all times of the day. The bigger the bird, the better the post. Occupancy was almost always full.
Our next stop is our last beach town for a while. Check out my next post on one of our favorite bike friendly and best state park we have ever stayed...
