After leaving OBX we continued our trek south to our next beaches near the city of Wilmington, NC. We were only here a few days and Michelle was under the weather, but we did find a place we could drive on the beach and seafood restaurants were plenty.

Here we enjoyed a nice lunch at Elijah's on the Wilmington Riverwalk along the Cape Fear River. Raw oysters were on the menu, so I had to get them.

We lucked out and found a place where you can drive onto the beach. Down to the south a few miles, Ft Fisher State Recreation Area has nice beaches with plenty of room. You need to buy a pass, but it was worth it for us to get our semi-secluded spot by the sea.

A few miles north of the state park in Carolina Beach was the Shuckin' Shack where I enjoyed more oysters. Here they served them still inside the shell, so bring your strength and patience to get them open with the little knife they provided.

This was an oddly unique surfmobile I found so I had to share. I'm guessing he got a good deal on it.

We also visited the Battleship North Carolina one afternoon. We spent a couple of hours looking at history and wondering what it must have been like at sea with the big guns firing all around you.

This battleship had extensive experience in WWII participating in every major offensive in the Pacific. She was the highest decorated battleship of WWII.

One of the days the sun wasn't cooperating, so we visited the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. It wasn't very extensive, but would be good for family outing on a day off from the beach.

While in Wilmington, we stayed at the Wilmington KOA Holiday that provided us access to many restaurants and breweries nearby. This was our view from the Bluewater Waterfront Grill one evening.
