After San Antonio we headed north to the Texas Hill Country. Staying at the Stone Oak Ranch RV Resort north of Austin and near Georgetown, we ventured out to ride some more city trails and to visit multiple breweries and wineries. Seems like there is a winery, brewery, or distillery just around every corner in this area. In fact, one place we visited near us had all three in one location with live entertainment.

The largest city we visited was the capitol of Texas (Austin). This view was from a riverside trail we rode one day. Austin has so many technology companies located here that it gained the nickname Silicon Hills.

We also ventured to Georgetown which also had some city trails with nice restaurants nearby. There was about 6 miles of trail here that were all paved.

A nice trail we rode in Austin was the Southern Walnut Creek Trail which was all paved and about 7 miles long to make a 14 mile out and back for us one afternoon. It even had a few hills that gave us a little workout.

One day off from biking we went to Fredericksburg. This place is a tourist's destination with many wine tastings, restaurants, breweries, and boutique shopping up and down Main Street. Here you see us at Fredericksburg Brewing Company operating as the oldest operating brewpub in Texas. We also had a great wine testing at the Grape Creek Vineyard.
Be sure bring $ as it can be spent here very quickly...

Here we are looking towards downtown Austin from the Ann and Roy Butler trail. This trail was a mix of crushed limestone and paved, but was very wide (30') in some sections and flat. The trail was very busy with many walkers, runners, and bikers too. The trail was about a 10 mile loop along the river with chances to stop at restaurants and parks along the way.

Again, a view of Austin on our ride. In multiple places along the trail (see left), the trail actually ventures over the water with many views of the city and parks.
From here we now move east to Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia to tackle four Hall of Fame Rail Trails on our bucket list. We should get some serious motorhome and bike miles in the next few weeks. Next posts will detail more on that!!!
